Established in 2019, Journée de la Francophonie attracts high school students taking French classes from across San Antonio and beyond. “The goal is to introduce high school students to the world of French speakers and Francophone culture outside of the confines of their classrooms,” says Charles Matt, former President of San Antonio’s Alliance Française. “It was established,” he goes on, “to expand students’ horizons, to give them a day of fun with the French language, ultimately to motivate them to continue their study of French.”
Presentations on French culture and language as well as competitions in prepared and extemporaneous French language readings, poetry, music, art, among others, will stretch students’ French language skills while having fun at the same time. Games such as the classic Pétanque, a treasure hunt (clues in French, of course), and a lunch of French crêpes are provided by Sweet Paris Creperie & Cafe.
Here is a look-back at the events of 2020, 2022,
and 2023. Due to the pandemic, 2021 was held virtually.
